ABOUT THE AUTHOR Bernard Whimpress is the Curator of the Adelaide Oval Museum. He has written and edited 13 books on sport, including Passport to Nowhere: Aborigines in Australian Cricket 1850-1939 ; Chuckers: A History of Throwing in Australian Cricket ; Adelaide Oval Test Cricket 1884-1984 ; The Imaginary Grandstand: Identity and Narrative in Australian Sport ; and Great Ashes Battles . His most recent book is Clem Hill’s Reminiscences . In addition he is the publisher and editor of the Australian cricket history journal Baggy Green . His current projects are as co-author of a book of photography titled Adelaide Then and Now ; as co-editor of a book of historical essays on Adelaide in the mid-nineteenth century; and as contributor to a national history of Australian football celebrating the sesquicentenary of its foundation. A former magazine editor and photographer, he holds a doctorate in history from Flinders University, South Australia.
