Lives in Cricket No 36 - WE Astill

144 The Captain Astill’s letter of apology to Hugh Wright shows that he still retained the family values that were instilled in him as a child – even when dealing with a cricketer as eminent as Leonard Hutton. Astill’s reputation for combining his cricket with his socialising is clearly drawn in this cartoon of him going out to bat. Why he is depicted as a rabbit is interesting, though.
