Lives in Cricket No 34 - Frank Mitchell
13 end Oxford lost by 34 runs, and that would not have displeased Mitchell either. Stephenson was father of Colonel John Stephenson, who was a popular MCC Secretary from 1987 to 1993. Colin Johnson, born at Pocklington, became captain of the Pocklington School XI, who were regular opponents of St Peter’s School at York. Johnson played 100 matches for Yorkshire over a period of eleven seasons from 1969 and scored two centuries for the county. He was also a brilliant outfielder, but could never quite cement a place in the Yorkshire side. A return is needed now to Mitchell. St Peter’s School, to which he went in 1883, was to be the scene for him of notable sporting success. An East Riding background
