aBOut tHe autHOr Chris Overson is a retired government statistician, most of whose career was spent in the field of transport. as a slow left-arm bowler and slow right-hand bat he played club cricket for over 30 years, mainly for Bessborough cricket club in north-west london. as a batsman he had all the shots, although they usually resulted in the ball going to backward square leg. as a bowler he was ahead of his time, regularly bowling the now popular slow bouncer, although when chris played it was called a long hop. His previous venture into writing for the acs was to produce a biography of tony lock in the ‘Famous cricketers’ series.
