Lives in Cricket No 25 - Tom Richardson
80 Fin-de-Siècle Not since the Trent Bridge Bank Holiday fixture in Richardson’s first full season of 1893 had there been any serious suggestion of throwing. This was scarcely serious, rather the bucolic banter of partisan punters. The revival continued against Sussex in a high scoring draw on what must have been a pretty flat track. His 18.5-2-76-5 and 26-2-116-6, the latter in an innings of 417 for 6, included C.B.Fry twice and Ranjitsinhji once, albeit for scores of 125, 229 and 103: The destroying angel was Richardson who, although he has not quite the same easiness of action which he possessed in his best days, has come to the front in an almost startling manner of late. 192 192 Cricket 26 July 1900
