An approximate English equivalent would be: 3 July 1912 3 pm Before us, Marie-Antoinette d’Oncieu, acting as Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths for the parish of St Jean d’Arvey in the North District of Chambéry appeared, firstly, Marc Vuillermet, aged 52, Funeral Director at Aix-les-Bains and secondly, Francois Duchatel, aged 49, retired gendarme of this parish, being neither relatives nor neighbours of the deceased and declared that Jean[sic} Richardson aged 42 years, publican at Richmond Green (Surrey, England) whose descent we have been unable to trace, but whose mother and father are deceased, estranged husband of the living Edith Emma Cheesman, died at St Jean d’Arvey in an open field called “Les Molliennes”* on the second of July of the present year at three o’clock in the afternoon, while passing through this parish. Having confirmed the death, we immediately drew up and entered in the two registers the death certificate which we have read to the informants who have signed it along with us.
