For Leicestershire, he played 349 matches, scoring 18,590 runs at 31.94 including 29 centuries, and taking 105 catches. He took part in 62 century partnerships, the highest of which was 236 for the third wicket with C.H.Palmer in Leicestershire’s second innings against Surrey at The Oval in 1951. He took one wicket in 112 balls and conceded runs at the rate of 5.67 runs per six-ball over. His only wicket was J.E.Pleass in Glamorgan’s second innings at Grace Road, on 1 September 1953, an incident referred to on page 90 above. 127
