ABOUT THE AUTHOR Martin Howe was born in Sheffield in 1936. After twelve years as a lecturer in economics at the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester, he joined the Civil Service where he held a number of senior posts. He is a member of Yorkshire CCC and vice- chairman of Yorkshire’s Southern Group. Since retiring from full- time employment in 1996, Martin has made a hobby of writing on Yorkshire cricket and cricketers. He is the author of the fifth book in the Lives in Cricket series, on Rockley Wilson, and of several biographical essays, the most recent on Abe Waddington and Frank Smailes. Martin and his wife live in Redbourn, Hertfordshire; they have three adult sons and seven grandchildren.
