Kent become the greatest team in England 59 G.F.Watts’ well-known lithograph of 1837, featuring Fuller Pilch in braces and trade-mark top hat, with an unspliced bat. The headgear fell on his wicket at Lord’s on 3 July 1837, an incident referred to in a Duckworth Lewis Method recording made in 2009, in which ‘topper’ rhymed with ‘cropper’.
