ABOUT THE AUTHOR Paddy Briggs was born in Kent in 1946. He was educated at Dulwich College, The Leys School in Cambridge and what is now Thames Valley University in Ealing. After a 37-year career with the international oil company Shell, Paddy retired in 2002 and in his personal ‘Third Age’ has devoted a high proportion of his time to watching and writing about sport – especially cricket. Paddy’s sports journalism has included weekly columns for various print and online publications in the Middle East and he is the resident ‘ranter’ in the cricket fanzine Yes, No, Sorry . Paddy is a long-established member of Kent County Cricket Club and MCC; a member of the Cricket Writers’ Club, the Sports Journalists’ Association and of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians.
