Hall and Ulyett had most to do with winning the match for tlieir county. The former played an admirable innings of 100, marred only by achaurj when be had scored 57, and Ulyett, in the first innings of Kent, took 7 wickets for 33 runs, his howling proving irresistible. lie took his hist 5 wickets for a single. His best supporters were—Lee 40, Grimshaw 37, and Pcate 24. Emmett and Bates bowled with .astonishing success. The former took 8 Sussex wickets for 32 runs, and 3 for 30, and Bates, in the second innings, took 6 wickets for 26 runs. After luncheon on the first day, Emmett bowled 11 overs and 3 balls, 9 maidens for 6 runs and 6 wickets. It should be stated that Messrs. Whitfeld, Newham, and W. Blackman were not'playing for Sussex. Tester scored 46 and 11, and Mr. McCormick 41 and 5. Sussex had no excuse for the collapse in the second innings, as the wicket remained firm and good. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns . Total.
