Lai n on the second day caused stumps to be drawn at a quarter past four, and so prevented any chance of the game being brought to a definite conclusion. For the M.C.C., Mr. Lloyd-Williams and Mr. \V. Maxwell each made 34, Gunn scored 33, and Mr. G. B. Studd 30, -while for. Liverpool the best scorers were A. Price (10 and 38 not. oilt), Mr. L. H. Yorkshire ■ 96 : ■ ■ Yorkshire won by 42 runs. • Undoubtedly the feature of the match was the splendid second innings of 146 (not out) played by George Ulyett, who was seen at his very best. He gave one chance when he had scored 93, but apart from this made no mistake. He hit three sixes, fourteen fours, three thvees, and twenty-two twos. Ulyett’s hitting naturally dwarfed everything else in the match, but there was some good batting for the M.C.C. Barnes made 44 and 25, Mr. \V. H; Hadow 37 and 12, and Gunn 15 and 20. For Yorkshire. Ulyett’s best supporter was Grimshaw, who made 0 and 4 3 . In the second innings of Marylebone, Emmett took 6 wickets for 31 runs. *' ‘ Total matches, 1 2 1 —won 59, lost 34, drawn 28. First-class matches, 12—won 6 , lost 6 . Flowers did not sustain the exceptionally good form he showed for the club in 1883, but he still has the good average of 26. Mr. W. G. Grace’s averao-e of 30 was entirely due to his score of 101 against the Austra lians Barnes shows a great improvement, having gone up from 14.5 to 34.6. He also scored over 100 in the Australian match. Flowers was arnin the most successful bowler, and it will be scon that his avciage is a°capital one—9 17 per wicket. Woof also did-very well indeed, hut Attewell though one of the crack bowlers of the season, did not meet with any particular success in the M.C.C. matches. l » • • • • • • • Gr. F. Vernon Barnes ...
