A strong team of the M.C.C. proved far too much for the Richmond Club. Gunn played capital cricket for 59, while Flowers hit freely for 42. Mr. M. Wilde scored 73, and Mr. G. F. Willes 59. Flowers and Fothemll bowled with great success. The best cricket for the home team was shown by Mr. F. W. Bush, who made 61. 1 st Inns . 2 nd Inns. The match was remarkable for the splendid all-round cricket of Flowers, the Nottingham professional, who scored a brilliant innings of 122, and took 6 wickets for 20 runs and 8 for 60 runs. Seldom, indeed, has one man done so much towards winning a match. From the start, the Cantabs proved altogether unable to hold their own against their powerful opponents. Mr. Paravicini made 24 -and 6, Mr. E. 0. Powell 3 and 24, and Mr. T. Greatorex 3 and 24, but, on the whole, the batting lacked life and spirit. For the M.C.C., Flowers’s chief supporter was Mr. D. G. Spiro, who scored 47. On the strength of this per formance he was given a place in the Cambridge Eleven. 1st Inns. 2 nd Inns. Total. June 25, M.C.C. and Ground 275 — 275 Marlborough.
