May 15, Lord’s. Tvr n n i n , I®4Inns* 2nd Inns. Tot M.(J. C. and Ground 183 31 214 Yorkshire 66 & l \ 0 M.C.C. won by 8 wickets. On paper, Yorkshire looked to have a distinct advantage, but in actual play the M.C.C. proved their superiority at all points of the game. There was nothing in the state of the wicket to account for the very poor show made by the Yorkshiremen in their first innings, and from their bad start they could never recover. The batting was a little better in the second innings, but the M.C.C. were only left with 28 runs to get to win. Mr. G. F. Vernon made 51 for the M.C.C., Mr. J. G. Walker 43, and Mr. I. D. Walker 32 and 15 (not out), Mr. W. G. Grace only scored 5 and 2. For Yorkshire, Ulyett made 29 and 18, Lockwood 1and 30, Grimshaw 0 and 30, and Hall 6 and 25. Burton and Kylott bowled very finely, and materially assisted the M.C.C. in gaining their victory. The former took 9 wickets for 78 runs and the latter 6 for 62 runs. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns . Tota l. May 19, M.C.C. and Ground 286 — 286 Lord’s. Lancashire 187 95 282 M.C.C. won by an innings and 4 runs. On the same days Surrey were playing the Australians at the Oval, so the match was robbed of a good deal of its interest. Up to a certain time the game proceeded pretty evenly, but in the second innings the Lancashire batting broke down completely, Flowers and Barnes carrying all before them. The former took 6 wickets for 18 runs and the latter 4 for 35 runs. The batting for the Club was consistently good. Barnes made 60, Flowers 59, Mr. R. S. Jones 46, and G. G. Hearne 43 not out, and Sherwin 37. Briggs played a brilliant first innings of 74 for Lancashire, but was poorly supported. During the innings of the M.C.C. the scoring was very slow, and 299 overs wei'e bowled. 1st Inns . 2 nd Inns. Total. May 21, M.C.C. and Ground . 8 0 — 80 Elstree. Elstree Masters 341 — 311 Drawn. M.C.C. had lost 7 wickets. Some fine batting was shown by the Elstree Masters, who treated the bowling of Attewell, Parnham, and Pickett, very lightly. Mr. \V. N. fioe scored 81, Mr. C. P. Wilson 70, Mr. H. G. Tylecote 55, Mr W. H. Bather 30, and Mr. L. Sanderson 24. When the M.C.C. went in, Mr. P. H. Morton took 5 wickets for 26 runs.
