PROGRAMME FOR 1884 was not quite so long as in the previous season, the number of fixtures being in all 121 as against 130. ■ Of these 121, the Club won 59, lost 34, and left 28 unfinished. The alteration of rule by which one-day matches could be decided on the first innings was an immense improvement, the number of drawn games in 1883 having been as many as 64. In last year s Com panion we expressed the opinion that the M.C.C, would e wise o o ow the plan adopted by other clubs. We are glad to hnd that the usual custom has now been recognised in the laws of the game. I he M.C.C. played a dozen first-class matches—home and home with Oxford and Cambridge Universities and Yorkshire, and single games with the Australians, Nottinghamshire,Lancashire,Kent, bussex and Deibyshiie. Of these twelve matches six were won and six lost. Emphatically the feature of the club season was the single innings victory gamed ovei the Australians in May last. As in 1883, the Gentlemen and Players match produced a splendid display of cricket. The staff of ground men in 1884 consisted of T. Heailie, 1'. Failands, J West8 M" Flanagan, R. Clayton, A. Rylott, F. Morley, F. Wild, W. Mvcroft G G Heaiue M. Sherwin, J. Wheeler, T. Mycroft, W. Hearn, W F low ers W Price W. Barnes; E. (FShaughnessy W. Gunn, W. Scotton G Hav W. A. Woof, Fothergill, W. The 97th annual meeting was held in the Pavilion, at Lord s, on May 7th Fsrl Winterton, the President pro few., being m the chair. 1 he annual report of the Committee stated that the Club numbered 2,863
