Rygate (21.7), the best all-round man in the eleven ; safe bat; hits well to the off, and bowls medium with leg break ; was successful all through the season. W. J. Scott (20.9), an excellent bat, with good defence, and generally scoring well; change bowler, and a brilliant field at cover-point. R. Thompson (20.5),- fasf run-getter; hits hard, but often throws away his innings ; good in the deep field, and* sure catch. S. Wacher (18), hard hitter, excellent field, and good change bowler A. J. Carter (16.5), steady bat; fell off towards end of season ; fair field. R. G. Hicks 15.7), useful and much improved b a t; rather slow in the field. A. F. Clarke (15) only played occasionally; free bat, but too much inclined to h it; very fair field. \v. Brown (12) again‘captained the team most successfully; keeps wicket well, and is a very useful bat. J. D. Cruickshank (10.6), a most reliable bowler, medium, with good off-break ; hard hitter when set, and excellent field. W. J. Lee (10) improved in batting since 1883 ; bowls well as change; smart field, and most enthusiastic cricketer. A. D. Fripp (8.7), good bowler, who puts in plenty of “ yorkers;” steady bat, but has too much respect for half-volleys; excellent point. C. Y.
