T. 1 mney (capt.) (20.1) again heads the averages; a good and trustworthy bat; hits very hard to leg ; did not bowl up to his last year’s form, but proved destructive on several occasions. I. L. Grist (17.8) was somewhat unlucky all the season; usuallv makes runs, and bats in capital style; bowled finely from first to last. G. L. Hanwell (14.12), a stylish, but uncertain bat; capital field. G. W. Ripley (13.10), a hard hitter, and fair bowler; poor field; was fortunate in his batting last season. W. Finney (13.2), a good and sure bat; fair bowler and excellent field; a tower of strength in every way. J. G. F. Nicholson (11.8). is a pretty bat, especially on the off side; is also a good point and wicket-keeper. Johnston (10) was unfortunate in batting, except on one or two occasions; as long-stop he fielded splendidly. J. H. Holden (8.8), stylish and good bat, but too eager to make runs; cuts well; a poor field, but most serviceable as a change bowler. H. D. Pitt (7.7) bats carefully and has a strong defence; fields well at point. C. F. Finney (5.9), a much improved bat, but very unlucky last season; bowls and fields better than ever. S. D. Adshead (5.3), a very fair, steady bat; proved most useful at times. J. W. Kincaid (2.9), a poor bat, but considerably improved; a safe and stylish field and sure catch. The brunt of the school bowling fell on T. Finney (125 overs, 46 maidens, 148 runs, 49 wickets—average per wicket, 3.1), and Grist (151 overe, 33maidens, 268 runs, 64wickets—average per wicket, 4.12). Gossard (4.1), a medium bat, with fair defence; fair field, but slow m return. C. A. E. Jourdain (3) bowls better in practice than in matches; free hitter; poor neia. H.
