208 CLIFTON COLLEGE. Capt., C. C. Bradford. Colours, dark blue, with white C.C. Matches, 11—won 2 lost 3, drawn 6. C. C. Bradford (capt.), a steady bat, with stubborn defence; a safe field, as captain, has set a pood example of painstaking cricket. C. D. Sandford was unable to play till lato in the season; plays straight, and in nice style; a good field at point It. H. Johnston, perhaps the best wicket.keeper Clifton has had; invaluable as a bat’ cutting and hitting to leg very hard, though in a style of his own ; always a most plucky and keen cricketer. G. Fowler has howled fast-medium well throughout the season, and with considerable success at times; has a deceptive action and break back; with more patient defence should make a fine bat. F. P. Norbury promised well early in the season, but fell into a laboured style which was ineffective; a slow field G. M. King, a very useful bat, hitting hard, especially on the off-side, but with a stiff b style of defence ; a fair change slow bowler; a good field far out. C. Cuyler, a very good left-handed bat, playing straight, with great patience; hits well to leg; slow field, owing to injured arm. L. Hinton, a straight medium-paced bowler, but seldom difficult; bats in good style, but without enough vigour; a fair field. E. G. Mayo, at times a difficult medium-paco bowler, with good break back, but cannot always control 1) the pitch; did not show his best form as a bat. C. F. Wood, a very fair bat, with a good {! drive past cover-point, but uncertain defence; somewhat slow in the field, but a "sure catch. H. R. Darley, a fair bat, hitting well to leg; poor field, but a safe catch; BATTING AVERAGES. R . H . Matches, 9—won 3, lost 3, drawn 3. H. N. B. Richardson (capt.), a good straight bat; can drive and hit well to leg, but rather lacking in con fidence; a smart field, and, having a thorough knowledge of the game, proved a popular captain; has left. W. F. Whitwell has proved himself a useful all round player; as a bat has decidedly improved since last year, hitting well nil round; a steady medium-pace bowler, safe catch, and good field. T. E. Eccles played much better towards the end of the season; is able to punish bad bowling; fair change bowler; fields well at point; has left. L. Martineau is a sound bat, of whom we-hope to hear more this year, when he will be able to hit harder; lias played well throughout the season ; a good slow bowler and fair field; captain, IsSC. A. C. Lascelles, as a bat is very short of confidence, which makes his play tame; fair change bowler, and smart field anywhere. H. P. Tillard rather disappointed us as abut - he promised well at the beginning of the season, but has fallen off very much owing to indisposition; slack in the field. A. N. Clegg unfortunately strained his knee early in the season; as a bat is rather uncertain; a splendid catch and good out. field. T. F. Whitwell plays correct cricket, and has good defence; a fair field. D. B. Maurice, a useful bat, but very wild; keeps wicket fairly well. P. Castle plays well at times; has plenty of confidence; fields well, but is slow after the ball; fair change bowler. B. L. Learmoutli, improving bat; change bowler; moderate field.
