James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Companion 1885
hander bowled far better than in 1883, and his record of 137 wickets for under 14 runs each, is highly creditable to him. In a season of dry wickets lie could not be expected to equal his great achievements of 1882. Barlow did his best performances for Lancashire, and was in capital form all through the summer. Flowers, as is usual with him bowled very finely during May and June, and his average is excellent! Excepting Attewell, no one improved so much as Wootton, who was invaluable to Kent. Woof did w ell under great disadvantages, and Barratt was also very effective. Mr. Horner stands by himself among the amateurs, but in the early part of the year we should have com sidered Mr. Christopherson the more dangerous bowler. As the summer advanced, however, Mr. Horner improved, and Mr. Christopherson felt the effects of too much work. Mr. Whitby bowled so w e ll for Oxford that more ought to be heard of him. Mr. Bock also shows promise. No one is included in the appended table who bowled less than 50 overs. • • • A be l , R . A rm strong , H . A ttew e ll, W . B a inb r idge , H . W B a i low , R . G .
