Cotterill’ who went in first and canted out his bat for G5, and Mr. E. H. O’Donoglme ( 11 ), being the only two to score more than 8 runs. Mr. F. H. Johnstone took 12 wickets, and Mr. E. G. Rand 7. The fine bowling of these two was combined with some good batting by the others. Mr. A. P Douglas scored 72, Mr. P. T. P. Knott 51, Mr. J. A. A remarkable piece of scoring by the Lancing hoys, who were at the wickets during the whole of the day, the sensational part of the per formance being the play of the Messrs. Hammond, The howling of the Brighton team was very weak and the fielding faulty, but this scarcely detracted from the hatting of Mr. H. Hammond and Mr. A. The play in the return match was of a very different description to that witnessed on the occasion of the first contest. This time Brighton went'in first, but could do little with the bowling of Messrs. H. Hammond and A. M. Payne, the former taking 5 wickets and .the latter 4. Of the Brighton total three members of the eleven scored 50 between them —Mr. G. L. Wilson 27, Mr. F. H. O’Donogliue 10, and Mr. E. H. Cole 13. When Lancing vrent in to bat, Mr. W. H.
