Gentlemen of England 267 166 433 Cambridge won by 12 runs. This hard Avon victory over a very powerful team Avas the one redeeming feature of Cambridge cricket in 1884. Mr. Topham Avas mainly instrumental in winning the game for his University, as in the ! Gentlemen’s second innings he took 7 Avickets for 62 runs. Mr. Rotherham being absent, the Gentlemen batted a man short on the last day. Otherwise the finish would have been even closer than it Avas. In no other match did the Cambridge men bat so Avell. Mr. J. E. K. Studd scored 35 and 82 (not out), Mr. Bainbridge 8 and 64, Mr. Wriglit 61 and 5, and Mr. Paravicini 53 and 0. Eor the Gentlemen, the Hon. Alfred Lyttelton and Mr. I. D. Walker shoAved some splendid cricket in the first innings, the former scoring 103, and Mr. Walker 83. June 9.—Cambridge.—Cambridge University v. M.C.C. and Ground. —(See M.C.C. Review .) Surrey 252 255 507 Surrey Avon by 148 runs. Cambridge paid very dearly for a couple of blunders in the field. In Surrey’s second innings 7 Avickets Avere doAvn for 102, and then after a chance of stumping, and a chance of a run out had been throAvn aAvay, the eighth Avicket put on 95 runs. From this point the Surrey men had everything their oaaui Avay, and in the end they gained an easy victory. The County’s hatting Avas consistently good. Mr. W. W. Read scored 82 and 4, Lolimann 18 and 69, Mr. BoAvden 61* and 11, Wood 2 and 52, and Mr. Roller 23 and 26. For Cambridge, Mr. Bainbridge scored 80 (an excellent innings) and 23, Mr. J. E.
