Following up the experiment tried in 1883 of engaging in more important contests, Leicestershire last season played home-and-home matches with Lancashire and Surrey. Curiously enough Lancashire won both matches in a single innings, and Surrey proved victorious on each occasion by seven wickets. Leicestersliiie succeeded in defeating Warwickshire twice, and Norfolk and the M.C.O. once each A single engagement with the Australians ended in a crushing defeat, although on the opening day the County managed to hold its own The great need is a few good amateur batsmen. In Warren the County possesses a cricketer of considerable promise. In one innino-s against the Australians he batted with ease and confidence, and Ws average of 21.1 for 18 innings is one of which he has no need to feel ashamed.
