Surrey .—(See Survey Keviev}.)1 Matches played, 12- u -won 0, lost 5, drawn 1. The hatting averages come out wonderfully well, and show a great improvement upon the figures of 1883. Mr. Newham's,place at the head of the list is the fitting result, of his brilliant play. He has gone up from 23.1 to 37.9. Mr. McCormick has risen from 18.1 to 27.5, and Jesse Hide from 16.11 to 26.1, Most remarkable is the advance made by Mr. Blackman, who has gone up from 3.4 to 27,7-. Mr. Whitfeld has fallen from 31.1 to 24.2, hut he only made four runs fewer than in 1883. the difference arising from a smaller number of not-out innings. Without presenting any special feature, the bowling shows a very good standard of merit, five men having an average of less than 20 runs each. It is a considerable time since Sussex bowling has been ho uniformly effective. $ ’ BATTING AVERAGES. 'ft fl i 1 Most in Most in Times W. Newham Matches. Inns .
