We see no reason to change our old opinion, that it is something of a mistake to arrange such a heavy list of fixtures. Even the resources of the lu.C.C. are not equal to the strain, and we believe that on one occasion last season the leading Club had to obtain the services of either five or six substitutes. Of the 130 matches 49 were won, 17 lost, and 64 left unfinished. Having regard to the number of games that, year after year, have to be left incomplete, we think it would be better for the M.C.G. to follow the example of other clubs and allow their one-day matches to be decided on the first innings. Under their existing regulation—that all matches must be played out—a large number of engagements prove utterly uninteresting. The Club played fourteen first-class matches—home and home with the two Universities, Notting hamshire, Yorkshire, Kent, and Derbyshire, and single games with Lancashire and Sussex. Six of these were won, four lost, and four drawn. Lord’s was again in capital order, the Gentlemen and Players’ match being decided on a superb wicket. ' The staff of ground men in 1883 consisted of T. Hearne, F . Farrands, J. West, M. Flanagan, E. Clayton, A. Bylott, M. Sherwin, F. Morley F. ild, W. Mycroft, G. G. Hearne, J. Wheeler, T. Mycroft, W.
