It is the fashion now, if the bowler can be relied on, and with a good wicket-keeper, when the ground is slow, todispensewith long-stop, there by getting a “ third man ” as well as « mid-on,” but great care should be used in this matter : the doing away with long-stop is more applicable to those bowlers who are not much above medium pace. All the diagrams are for right-hand batsmen.
