VICTORIA (R eturn ). This was our last match in the Colonies, and was commenced at Melbourne on March 10. The Victorian team, on a hard fast wricket, put together the fine total of 284—Midwinter contributing 92 (not out) by very steady play, Mr. Bonnor, in his usual style, and with his accustomed luck, supporting him with 54. The wicket was still hard when we commenced our first innings, but the light wTas very bad; and when rain stopped play we had lost 7 wickets for 47 runs—Cooper being instrumental in capturing four of them. Rain continued to come down in torrents, and on the last day the wicket was unplayable; wre, conse quently, never had an opportunity of retrieving our laurels. Mr. Steel again played magnificently on the difficult wicket, but we were too heavily handicapped, and were defeated by an innings and 75 runs, the most crushing defeat we sustained during the tour.
