The cricket season of 1883 in San Francisco was marked by much greater interest than for many seasons previous. Only two clubs have appeared, the Merion and Occident, and they have played 9 matches, the Merions winning six of that number. The scores are very small, and the averages appear ridiculous ; but the ground has been very s ow. and a score of 20 on the ground here is equal to 50made on a turf where tlie ball would travel. Many young players havo come to the front, and some of them promise well. Should they improve as much next year as durimr the mst season, the play all round will be fairly good. The most pleasing match played during the season was between the officers of n,B M *s ship Svoijtsuve anti an eleven selected tiom oui local clubs. 1 i * x.
