Reid, very fine field, but perhaps not so good as last year; greatly improved in batting. A. S. Blair began the season badly, but turned out the mainstay of the e leven ; a high-class bowler on anything but a spongy wicket, and a bat with fair attacking and great defensive powers; a fair field, but might improve in this, as well as in judgment of run s ; left for Brasenose College, Oxford. W. P. Gomall fell off greatly towards the end of the season; a good field, with an excellent return ; a useful lob bowler. L . R. Paterson has an excellent defence, and cuts well • improved, but still slow, in fielding and running between wickets. Andrew Pearson has the best style in the eleven, and is a very good bat for his size and strength ; will make a good neld. J. N . Kyd, a very hard hitter, improved in defence ; a weak field; can sometimes bowl. G. Paton, a straight but unsuccessful slow bow ler; gets runs sometimes in a style of his own ; a very good field. A S. Caldwell, fair at wickets to slow bowling, and at “ half-back ** to fast; his batting, though stylish, has not yet been at all successful, but he promises well. J. B. Park, a good long-field and improving hat. F . A. MacFarlan, a very slow bowler, sometimes successful; an indifferent bat and field. B attinq A verages . Times Most in Inns. not out.
