L . u. iaiKner (14.2), energetic captain, good bat, and excellent school bowler ^ “ e /J ox4r Hodgson (13.2), good, though lucky bat; excellent held. C. E. W. Stringer (6.3), hard hitter, but awkward bat; a good catch, but poor field. E. P. lu rner (5.2), very fair all-round cricketer. G. L. Hanwell (4.2), rather uncertain bat, better at the com mencement of the season than at the end; fair field. T. B. Johnson (4.1), good bat, with plenty of style; moderate bowler and field. R. S. Lowis (3.6), sticking bat; good field. H. B. Legge (3.5), energetic hitter, shows improvement; fair field. Lf G. Gisborne (3), painstaking bat, but plays rather stiffly; should practice fielding. E. M. Peck (2.3), fair bat and excellent field. B owling A verages : —C. G. Faulkner took 91 wickets for 6.2 runs each, E. P. Turner 20 wickets for 6.3 runs each, and T. B. Johnson 18 wickets for 9.9 runs each. WELLINGBOROUGH GRAMMAR SCHOOL.—Matches, 25—won 18, lost 2, drawn 5. The thirty innings played by the school average 180 runs per innings (highest total, 426). The thirty-six innings of opponents average 6t runs per innings (highest total, loo). J. B. Challen, good all-round cricketer, possesses strong defence and tremendous punishing power; has scored largely; straight bowler, varying his pace an * pitch, and proving very destructive; very quick field. W. H. Game, correct a id patient bat, with a beautiful cut; his style is best suited to a fast wicket and fast bowling; has three times topped the century ; good field at cover, and useful change bowler for a few overs. A. Pretty came on wonderfully in batting; almost certain to stay in; hits well all round; as a wicket-keeper stands back and dispenses with a long-stop; has made 6ome capital catches, but at times hardly maintained his reputation. A. W. Platt played some excellent innings, especially at the latter end of the season; has a good square-leg h it ; very smart at point, and a safe field in the country ; his bowling appears to have deserted him this year. H . E. Platt some times makes runs when wanted; owing to an unfortunate accident was prevented from playing during the last fortnight; fields up, and occasionally bowls fast under hand with effect. F. C. Grey can drive and hit to leg well, but is weak in defence, particularly on the off stump; in the field often picks up very cleverly, but does not start soon enough to cover any ground; apt to misjudge a catch. F. C. Preston promised well in practice, but disappointed in matches; w ill do better another season. ~*enfrey came out as a bowler until ill-health prevented his playing ; plucky mtie bat, but has a lot to learn; keen field. I. J. Whitworth did good service in bc\ eral matches with his slow round; feeble bat, as he cannot keep the ball down; average field. W. B, Curgenven bats fairly at times, and might possibly make a very 6^ack in the field; has a good return from long-leg. F. C. Robinson, nis oatung saved us from defeat on one occasion, but he did little afterwards; wants i Novell, very slow on his legs; bats in nice style, but seldom stays long at the wickets; uncertain catch.
