H astings ,* a really good left-handed bat; has scored brilliantly throughout theseason; a sharp field at point; as captain, he has done his utmost for the success of the team. R. W. L. F ernandes , * in batting has disappointed us, thoughhe has certainly had bad luck in every way; cuts prettily; a fair field, and can bowl as a change. C. M. J ohnstone ,* always to be relied on for runs; hits very hard and sure on the on side; bowled very well all through the season; has improved his delivery wonderfully; a certain catch. A. M. K night * fell off decidedly in baiting; kept wicket with fair success throughout the season. F. C. S itwell , a very pretty bat, though he utterly failed to score at the close of the season; ought to make a good bat for next year’s eleven ; a poor field. B. L. LKESMiTii,,a good bat, though hardly reliable at present; cuts brilliantly, but is somewhat weak on the leg side ; an excellent field at long leg. L. M. O wen * thoroughly earned his place in the eleven by his exceptionally fine fielding; very fast, and picks up clean; a peculiar bat. J. B lackwall , a most promising young player; has played some excellent innings, and has been of the greatest service to the team; a fair change bowler; weak in the field. H. L ockhart has proved a very effective slow howler; gets a lot of work on the ball, but is not quite certain of his pitch; pays great attention to coaching, and has improved his batting wonderfully. 0. E. T unmcliffk , a good fast bowler on a dead wicket; gets runs against slow bowling, an excellent held. J. T. R oblnson , a good bat, but rather slow; should learn to play harder; an excellent long-stop. A. L. H udson bowled well in the last two or three matches; can field excellently when he likes: a careless hat. * Has left. BATTING AVERAGES. Times Most in Inns. not out. Runs. an Inns. Aver. 0. P.
