CLIFTON COLLEGE. Capt., J. H. B rain . Matches, 8—won 2, lost 3, drawn 3. J. H. B rain * (capt.) is a fine, free bat, cutting and driving well, and making runs quickly; fields beautifully at cover-point, and is a fair change bowler; captained the eleven with energy and success, and did good service afterwards for Gloucestershire. K. J. K ey * is a very good bat, with plenty of confidence and determination, as well as defence; his bowling was sometimes difficult, and he is an excellent field; he played with great success for Surrey during the holidays. H. B. P owell * lost his bowling to a great extent, but improved in batting, though his style is still peculiar; improved in the field, but rather slow. M. A. H artnell * sometimes hits well, but his defence is very weak; he must takemore care in practice if he is to become a good bat; a good field far out. C. G. S chmitz * failed at the wicket, but improved in batting, and fielded well in the long- field. C. D. S andford is a steady and careful bat, who has done good service for the eleven, and a good field at point. 0. 0. B radford is a steady bat, with patient defence, and has been very useful to the eleven on several occasions; fields carefully, but has still a good deal to learn with regard to catches. H. J ohnston is a very sharp and good wicket-keeper; he bats in a style of his own, and has very much to learn. G. F owler isa promising medium-pace bowler, with a good deal of spin, and ought to be really good next season; he fields well; in batting he seemed likely to be very good, but did not come up to his early promise. J. H. Fox is a steady, painstaking player in all parts of the game; he batted carefully, and got a few wickets with slow rounct.armbowling. F. G. N kwbolt hits well at times, but his defence is weak and hi> fielding poor; he bowled slow round-armsometimes as a change. * Has left.
