Matches played, 6—won 4, lost 1, drawn 1. This old school team was stronger than usual this year, haying a first-rate wicket-keeper in M. C. Kemp, and a useful addition to their all-round strength in Rev. W. Law. The first match of the tour was played at Leicester v. The County, on ground little better than a bog, where the bowling of Parnham was quite unplayable. Short scores were the order of the day, and eventually the Wanderers suffered defeat by 6 wickets. The 'second match was against the Gentlemen of Derbyshire, and the Wanderers won easily by 10 wickets, scoring 257 against 167 and 94 from their opponents; for the winners, Kemp made 55, Openshaw 46, and Capt. Hornby 34. The third match was at York, v. Gentlemen of Yorkshire, and here the Wanderers found their old friend, George Freeman, among their opponents, who were, however, scarcely so strong as in some former years. The contest resulted in a win for the visitors by 102 runs, they getting 116 and 182 against the 103 and 93 of Yorkshire. Another victory awaited them in their fourth match at Kirkstall, on which ground the Wanderers have now met Leeds Clarence for twelve years ; they had secured the services of W. Wright, of Notts, but otherwise were a very weak team. Leeds Clarence made 38 and 188, Wanderers 171 and 56 for 3 wickets. The fifth match at Preston looked like a draw, as at 4 p.m. on the second day only an innings apiece was completed, Preston 252, Wanderers 286; the good fielding of the Harrovians, however, dismissed their adversaries for 62 at the second attempt, and they won by 8 wickets with some half-an-hour to spare. For the winners, A. N. Hornby got 75, Maynard 52, Kemp 45. The final match, as usual, was at Lascelles Hall, and resulted, as has so often been the case, in an unsatisfactory draw, but somewhat in favour of the visiting team, who got 226 against 200 and 170 from their opponents; for the Wanderers, Hornby was again to the fore with 63, Walker 36, Henery 34, Maynard 30. Thus ended a pleasant fortnight ; and the Harrovians went their several ways, with the hope of meeting each other again on the tented field in many future years. UPPINGHAM ROVERS. Hon. 8ec., C. E.
