Perhaps themost patient bat in England ; a real stick, but has a very strong defence, and scored consistently for Yorkshire last season ; a fair field. Hon. A. One of the best amateur batsmen, plays the game, has good defence as well as hit; a most excellent wicket-keeper, and a capital field. Was in fine formlast season. Hou. E. L yttelton (Eton), Middlesex, M.C.C., I Zingari, Free Foresters, and Quid­ nuncs. A finebat when “ set;” hits beautifully all round; a good thrower and fair “ groundMfield, but inclined to drop a catch. Played but little last year. _ .„ Hon. S. G. As a bat, hits hard to the off and drives well; rather uncertain in batting as well asbowling; when he finds thespot, isdifficult toplay ; a “ casual ” field. Hon. R. H. L yttelton (Eton), M.C.C., I Zingari, Free Foresters, and Quidnuncs. A fair bat; sometimesbowls lobs; very fond of the game, and a great hand at scoresand datesof bygone cricket. F. A. M ackinnon (Harrow), Kent. Bats well at times; seems to have rather fallen off; a good field. C. M arriott (Winchester), Leicestershire, M.C.C., I Zingari, Free Foresters, and Harlequins. Agood bat,having defencewith hit; capital field; bowls a little. Rev. G. S. M arriott (Winchester), Free Foresters. A prettygoodall-round cricketer. E. A. J. M aynard (Harrow), Derbyshire. A steady bat, but rather unsuccessful; playedwell sometimes on a good wicket; very fair field. E. J. M c C ormick , Sussex. A stylishbat and pretty good, though not very sound; has a beautiful cut. F. H. M ellor , Kent, M.C.C. Amoderately goodbat?and field. R. A. H. M itchell (Eton), M.C.C., I Zingari, FreeForesters, andHarlequins. Does not play much, having a Mastership at Eton, but still annually appears in the Canterbury Week; has been a very fine bat, and occasionally shows some of hisold form; rather stiff now in the field; anardent supporterofcricket, and a capital judgeof the game. W. O. M oberly (Rugby), Gloucestershire and Harlequins. Is a Master at Clifton College; a very steady and good bat, drives hard to the off; also a good field and fair at the*wicket. T. H. M orton (Rossall), Norfolk. A good fast bowler, hard-hitting batsman, and quick field. W. N ewham , Sussex. A good bat, and tolerably successful for his County; will probably still improve. S. C. N ewton , Somersetshire. A good bat and excellent field. T. C. O’B rien , Middlesex. A dangerous bat, but not quite up to first-class form; a hard hitter, especially toleg. W. E. O penshaw (Harrow), Lancashire. Bats well; bowls fast underhand, and is a good field. J. T. P ahfitt , Somersetshire. A pretty good fast bowler; onlymoderate as a batsman and field. W. H. P atterson (Harrow), Kent and Harlequins. Has a great defence, but treats half volleys with toomuchrespect; bets straight; is a goodjudge of length; a fair field.. W. B. P attisson (Tunbridge), Kent. A tali^scorer in minor matches; bats well, and is a fairly good field. T. S. P eahson (Rugby), Middlesex, Harlequins, I Zingari, and Free Foresters. A bats­ manwith a grotesque style, but has the merit of being able to scoreon soft difficult wickets; bowls slow round with an eccentric delivery, and is a magnificent fieldatpoint. A. P enn , Kent, M.C.C. A good left-handed slow bowler, but not suited to wet grounds; a fair fieldand improving bat. F. P enn , Kent, M.C.C., and I Zingari. Ill healthunfortunately prevented this gentle­ man from playing during thepast season. Was amagnificent bat, with a tremendousoff drive and square-leg hit; not atrustworthy field. C. Pioo, Herts. Afairly good bat andall-round cricketer. H. Pioo, Herts. Pretty fair bat, and canbowl also. D. I), P ontifex , Surrey. Prettydecent bat; moderate field. W. W. R ead , Surrey. Amost useful bat—one of the best in England •has a fineoff stroke and gooddefence ; must be careful not to get in front of his wicket • a good fieldat point. Rev. F. R eed , Somerset. A pretty, straight, medium-pace bowler; moderate with the bat. 11
