Clifton won the toss and put Cheltenham in to bat, it being generally thought that the wicket would improve. On the first day it seemed as though this proceeding would cost Clifton the match, but on the second, the batting of Cheltenham was decidedly feeble, and the visiting team gained a most creditable victory. Mr. K. J. Key, the Clifton captain, scored an admirable 00 and 1, Mr. C. C. Bradford made 20 and 46, Mr. C. D. Sandford 5 and 34, and Mr. J. H. Brain 7 and 18. The best scorers for Cheltenham were Mr. A. Heath 84 and 0, Mr. H. A. Hornby 33 and 10 , Mr. Y. E. Furguson 17 (not out) and 20, and Mr. A. Robinson 21 and 3 . In the second innings of Cheltenham eight batsmen only made 16 runs between them. The breakdown was chiefly caused by the bowling of Messrs. Fow ler and Brain, the former taking 5 wickets for 28 runs and the latter 3 wickets for 7 runs. Twelve matches have now been played— Clifton has won 6 , Chelten ham 3 , and 3 have been left unfinished. A I d m m * CHARTERHOUSE SCHOOL v. W E L L IN G T O N COLLEGE . 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. Charterhouse started badly; losing 3 wickets for 20 runs. Then Messrs. G. A.Coulby and E.Cawston became partners, and quite altered the aspect of the game by putting on 94 runs.
