A victory that was chiefly due to the admirable batting of Mr. G. A. Coulby, who went in first and carried out his bat for 144. It is a curious fact that when Westminster w’on in the previous year Mr. F. T. Higgins went in first and took out his bat for 171. On the present occasion Mr. Higgins tried hard to save his side from defeat, hut without success. He commenced the innings with Mr. A. E. Bedford, and was the eighth man out, having scored 70 by most patient and excellent cricket. Apart from the batting of Messrs. Coulby and Higgins there was little in the play to call for special comment. For the winning team, Mr. R. Webber made 33, Mr. W. H. Ewing 27, and Mr. C. W, Wreford- Brown and Mr. A. M. Walters each 17, while for Westminster, Mr. A. E. Bedford scored 20, Mr. A. It. Hurst 19, and Mr. F. G. Thorne 16. The match only finished about ten minutes before time. Eight members of the Marlborough team got into double figures, the best cricket being shown by Mr. F. E. Rowe 67, Mr. F. W. D. Quinton 61, Mr. T. R. Bale 43 (not out), Mr. H. T. Keeling 32, Mr. J. P. Cheales 22, Mr. F. N. Templer 21, and Mr. E. H. Buckland 19. The Cheltenham boys never recovered from the bad start they had made, hut Mr. H. A. Hornby (10 and 43), Mr. E. M. Blair ( 1 1 and 23), and Mr. V. E.Furguson (5, not out, and 29), did their best. Mr. E. H. Buckland bowled remark ably well for Marlborough, taking, in all, twelve wickets for 73 runs. Of the 28 matches played, Marlborough has won 11, Cheltenham 10> and 7 have left unfinished.
