Eton . t 61 95 159 * * Winchester won by 224 runs, > Such promising form had been shown by the Etonians in their trial matches that it was generally anticipated the Winchester boys would have a much harder task than they h ad 'in 1882. The game, however, proved a very one-sided affair, the dark blues being stronger at all points of the game. Mr. B. E. Nicholls, who dismissed the Etonians so easily in the previous year, took 5 wickets for 69 runs.* Mr. J. M. Hwayne obtained chief honours, his 6 wickets in the first innings costing only 22 runs, and his 3 in the second 44 runs. In batting, Mr. F. SI. Ingram scored 17 and 77, the latter being a very fine innings, Mr. E. B. H ills 0 and 52, A. It. Cobb 14 and 26, and Mr. 0. L. Budd 25 and 17. For Eton, Mr. A. C. Richards took 4 wickets for 27 runs, and 5 for 73, and scored 24 and 4. In the second innings, Mr. R. H. Pemberton made 31, and Mr. R. J. Lucas 25, but there was little else that was creditable in the play of the L ight Blues. Their fielding was not nearly as smart as it should have been, and in the second innings of Winchester the bow ling was changed with ridiculous frequency. Of the 54 matches now played Eton has won 35, and W inchester 17 ; the match in 1845 resulted in a tie, and that in 1865 w'as left unfinished. There was no time to make such a member, but the draw was certainly in favour of Marlborough. For Rugby , Mr. A . W'. W a lson
