Though they went straight to hand, all these chances were from very hard hits. The other successful Cambridge batsmen were:—Mr. Paravicini 61 and 1 , Mr. Henery 35 and 29, Hon. J. W. Out of seven matches, two were won, three lost, and two drawn. Mr. Leslie only played in the last three matches, and even then was far below his usual batting standard. Mr. J. G. Walker, on the other hand, played consistently good cricket. Mr. G. E. Robinson was a long way the best bowler on the side, but lie utterly failed against Cambridge. Mr. H. V. Page did not justify liis Cheltenham reputation as a bowler, but bis batting was capital. May 24.—Oxford.—Oxford University" v. M.C.C. and Ground .—(See M.C.C. Review.) 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. May 31, Oxford University 102 202 304 Oxford. Lancashire 167 283 455 Lancashire won by 151 runs. The Oxonians were distinctly overmatched, but nevertheless the game excited considerable interest. The batting of the Lancashire teamwas 1 consistently good. Mr. S. M. Crosfield made 43 and 49, Briggs 34and j 52, Mr. Roper 8 and 41, Watson 2and 40, Crossland 6 and 45, and Barlow 1 9 and 30. For the Dark Blues Mr. Hine-Haycock scored 12 and 44, Mr. Kemp 5 and 43, Mr. Walker 34 and 0, and Mr. Bolitlio 8 and 27. In their first innings the Oxonians were altogether beaten by Crossland’s great pace, and only three batsmen reached double figures. Crossland took 5 wickets for 32 runs. _ . let Inns. 2ndInna. Gentlemen of England 119 233 352 Oxford University won by 66 runs. \ The wicket did not play so well as in the earlier matches at Oxford and in the four innings there were no fewer than 90 extras! The victory 1 of the Oxonians was very creditable, but at times their bowling was punished with the utmost severity. Mr. J. G. Walker played flue cricket for 93 and 29, Mr. Ruggles-Brise made 12 and 49 Mr. Hine- Haycock 9 and 44, and Mr. Bolitlio 28 and 32. Mr. C. C Clarke was top scorer lor the Gentlemen with 20 and 05, and received the best support from Mr F. E. R. Fryer, 6 and 54, Mr. J. Frank, 14 and 34 and Mr. L & Pearson, 31 and 7. In the first innings of the Gentlemen Mr Robinsou took 6 wickets for 38 runs. 1
