James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Companion 1884
107 total of 80 against Suffolk, his play being described as “ grand, without giving a single chance;Mand the best averages with the bat are Mr. H. R. Bagot (38.1), Mr. W. Francis (23.7), and Mr. C. E. Green (23.5). Mr. H. G. Owen, Mr. A. Capel Cure, Mr. F. P. Francis, and Mr. W. H. Pemberton Barnes have also, with others, in many instances brought about most satisfactory results by some useful play. Of the bowling it is needless to say much, the averages having been good, while Silcock and Pickett have been at times very destructive. Kirkman and Mr. Y. Godden have also done well with the ball; but the latter has never been seen to such advantage as he was in the first appearance he made in the match of North v. South Essex. The splendid ground at Brent wood was in excellent order throughout the season. Matches played, including M C.C. match, 8—won 4, lost 3, drawn 1. r RESULTS OF MATCHES. . . • 1 st Inns. 2 ndInns.
