The Yorkshiremen won the toss, and kept at the wickets the whole o[ the first day. Ulyett played a grand innings of 112 , and Lockwood battei in brilliant style for 109. Bates made 55, Hall 47, and Emmett 41. p is worthy of remark that in this long innings there was not a single extra. When Surrey went in Mr. A. P. Lucas was the only batsman to offer am serious resistance to the splendid bowling of Peate and Hill. He scored 60 and 12 . Peate and Hill were unchanged throughout the two innings. The former took 14 wickets for 77 runs, and the latter 6 for 85 runs. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. June 13, Yorkshire 213 — 213 Bradford. Kent 62 64 126 Yorkshire won by an innings and 87 runs. The first county match played on the new ground at Horton Park Avenue, Bradford. The wicket played well at the commencement, but cut up badly towards the close. Under these circumstances, it was a great advantage to Yorkshire to win the toss. Ulyett and Hall put on 100 run for the first wicket, the former scoring 79 and the latter 26. After the?* two batsmen had been separated, Bawlin hit hard for 31. Kent could make little stand against the bowling of Peate, Bates, and Hill, and were disposed of for 62 and 64. In the first innings, Hill took 5 wickets for 25 runs, and Peate 5 for 32 ; and in the second Bates obtained 6 for 22, anc Peate 4 for 26 runs. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. Lucas, that at the fall of the first wicket the score had reaches: 113. Prom this point, however, the Yorkshiremen had everything their own way, and were seen to advantage at all points of the game. Ulyetj played finely for 73 and (not out) 21, and Lockwood scored a capital 58 an (not out) 5 . Peate took 9 wickets for 115 runs, and Bates 7 for 54. Eor Sussex Mr. M. P.
