Hornby’s figures are the best, as Mr. Shuter’s average is 1Lined by two not out innings. Midwinter played consistently good cricket, •aid has advanced from 11 to 37.2. A marked improvement was shown by Mr. Foliambe, who has gone up from 4.1 to 32.3 ; but this average was mainly due* to his innings of 09 at Oxford. As a proof of how good the batting was all through, it will be noticed that no fewer than thirteen men average over 20 runs. . In bowling, Mycroft heads the list with the excellent average of 9.8. Shaw took 0 wickets fewer than in 1880, and was far more expensive. Morley, , although effective at times, was not seen at his best, his wickets costing 1 (> runs each as against 10 in the previous year. Barnes bowled fairly well, but Flowers and Midwinter were terribly knocked about, liylott, who was second on the list in 1880, only bowled in one first class match for the M.C.C. last season, and on that occasion took 10 wickets for 84 runs.
