Yorkshire 100 53 153 M.C.C. won by an innings and 35 runs. This match produced one of the most remarkable batting performances of the season. Going in ninth, on a slow and treacherous wicket, Mr. A. G. Steel made no fewer than 106 out of 138 runs. He gave one or two chances of stumping in the early part of his innings, but his hitting was of the most brilliant description. Mr. H. Whitfeld, who stayed in while Mr. Steel hit, only scored 26, but his innings was of the greatest value. York­ shire, who wereplaying six amateurs, offered but a feeble resistance to the howling of Barnes, Morley, and Mr. Steel.
