Scotton ’ Flic 9 Hh annual meeting was held in the Pavilion, at Lord’s, on Mav 4th, Sir William Hart-Dyke, M.P., the late President, in the chair. The annual report of the Committee stated that the Club numbered 2,579 members, being an increase of 05 over the previous year. A sum of £2 735 was expended on matches in tlie season of 1880, being £350 more than in the previous year. The total receipts from gate-money amounted to £3,927 15s. Od , being £071 15s. 0d. more than in 1879. 'Flic following were the principal matches:— May 5, Lord's. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. M.C.C. and Ground 149 210 365 Middlesex Colts 177 15 102 Drawn. Colts had lost 3 wickets. Flic howling of the Colts was particularly weak, but there were three batsmen among them who played in good style. Mr. C. Robson showed excellent form for 31. Mr. W. C. Wilkinson made 31, and T. Sawyer 37 . For the M.C.C., G. G. llearne was top scorer with 49. 1st Inns. May 9, M.C.C. aud Ground 04 Lord's. Colts of England 140 M.C.C. won by 5 runs. The finish of this match was remarkable. On the third day, the Colts seemed certain of victory, but Morley and Alfred Shaw bowled so finely, and were so well backed up by Pilling, that 10 wickets fell for 21 runs. Among the Colts there was one batsman of great promise—F. Butler, of Nottingham Few young professionals have made so successful a first appearance at Lord’s. He scored 47 and 34, playing fine cricket in eatdi innings. 2nd Inns. Total. 208 267 122 262 May 12 , Lord's. 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. M.C.C. and Ground 299 — 299 Derbyshire 172 39 211 M.C.C. won by an innings and 88 runs. The feature of the match was the splendid bowling of Alfred Shaw, who, in Derbyshire's second innings, with the ground in capital order, took 8 wickets at a cost of only 14 runs. For the M.C.C., Mr. A. N. Hornby played a brilliant innings of 89, but was favoured with considerable luck. Mr. C. Booth made 43, Shaw 41, and Wild 40 (not out). Mr. Vernon scored 32, his figures being remarkable—a four, nine threes, and only one single. Perhaps, however, the best batting in the match was shown by Mr?K. P. Smith, who played a really faultless innings of 66 . Foster was the onlv other Derbyshire batsman who could play the bowling of Sim" V v and Morley. T . 1st Inns. 2nd Inns. Total. May 14, M.C.C. and Ground 150 — Twickenham. Orleans Club 125 138 Drawn. Orleans Club had lost 8 wickets. An uneventful game. Mr. S. S. Schultz, ol the 1877 Cambridge Klc'c ’ bowled effectively for the Orleans Club, and Clayton was of great scim to the M.C.C.
