W Pres., Chas. Stringer, Esq.; Treas., A. P. Talbot, Esq.; See., A. Y. Gahagan, Esq. Ground, the Esplanade. Colours, back and yellow. This club, which—thanks to energetic officers, with a president who is ever watchful for the advancement of its interests—is now one of the most popular in the East, numbers over 160 members. The best all-round cricketer, L. R. Glass, who has left for England, will be much missed. E. B. Caxon—a new arrival—and E. W. Birch are both most effective batsmen, with strong defence, the latter’s 83 (not out) being worth the century on a lively ground; but the Singapore wickets are, as a rule, heavy, from constant rain. A. P. Talbot, the captain, was unfortunately absent from many matches through ill health, and his loss as wicket-keoper was much felt. Taken all round, the team may beclassed as strong in batting, but short of bowling; and of the matches played against other clubs, 5 were won, 2 drawn, 2 lost. BATTIN } AVERAGES, # Inn ings.
