Sharp (17.2), the steadiest and most correct bat in the team; has L'reat strength on the off side ; bowls effectively. F . Colclough (9.18), a very patient bat and useful slow bowler. J. Foster (12.9), a clumsy, buteffective bat; and at times a paying bowler. R. Hicks (12.9) knows how to play very prettily, but needs steadiness. H. Aste (9), a very correct bat, but is nervous. C. A. Anderson (6.4), quick in the field. F. Clark (6.17), very fast and destructive bowler. F. Francis (4.4), pains, taking, and good at playing forward. F. Allen (5,10), pretty bat; good long-stop, but needs more energy. H. H. Brown (6.2), good bat, with fair hitting power; energetic field. H. A. Caryl (10.6), very safe bat, and excellent field ; fair slow bowler, with plenty of break from the off. W. E. Cornwall (6.5), capt. for 1882, very much improved as a bat, drives well, but is weak on the leg. T. C. Gobat, (5.25), a serviceable bat, hits hard, but is too fond of pu lling ; a good and often brilliant field. D. G. Evans* (4.4), a resolute bat, but rather too anxious to score ; very effective change bowler (fast right); fair field. J. V. Evans, Esq. (10) is a most useful bat, hitting hard all round, but not always straight; sharp field, with quick return. R. A. G. Goalen* (2.16), steady bat, but has been rather unsuccessful; hard-working field ; has given general satisfaction as captain during the past season. E. G. Hall (4.14) slogs wildly, but at times success­ fully ; excellent left-hand bowler (medium pace ); must pay more attention to fielding. I. A. Hughes* (8.4), very steady bat, and generally safe for runs; sharp field at slip. Owing to an accident was prevented from taking part In the latter matches. E. Matheson (20.16), the most successful bat in the team, has a good defenco and hits well, especially to tho o f f ; useful change bowler, bnt should study p itch ; safe field and catch. E. H. Oldham, Esq. (17.12), can generally be relied on for runs, having considerable patience, combined with groat hitting powers; straight meduim-paced bowler, and latterly very effective; a sure and smart field. G. E Sharpe* (10.15) plays m very good style, especially strong on the leg side; very destructive bowler (slow right), is rarely off tho wicket, and varies his pitch we l l ; good field and catch. R. B.
