170 ETON COLLEGE. P. J. DEP aravtctni * (capt.) is a lino bat and bowler, but was singularly unfortunate in his scoring through the season ; his bowling, however, was one of the chief main, stays of the eleven; and as a captain and cricketer he was most enorgetic. H. \v. B aixbridqb lost much of his bowling, but generally scored some runs, and played two useful innings against Harrow; a good field and catch. A. E. N ewton * was invaluable as wicket-keeper, in which post ho proved quite first-rate ; but his batting was uncertain, although occasionally good. W. F. C ave did not bat as well as in the previous season, but bis fielding and catching were good. R. J. L ucas , a most promising batsman, and has somo notion of bowling, but in the field he is deficient. R. H. R awson ’,* a painstaking and steady batsman, and bowls vory fairly sometimes, but wants more energy in the field. J. H argreaves fell off in his batting towards tho end of the season, but his hitting is good and free; scarcely reliable in the field. A. C. R ichards , a very promising cricketer at every point of tho game, and with increasing size and strength may turn out quite first-rate. Hon. C. M. K. H ugessen , a good free hitter on his day, but extreme rashness often cuts his innings short; can bowl at a pinch, and fields well at cover point. Hon. D. H. L asceij . es ,* a very fair fast bowler, and can bat too. Hon. C. T refusis ,* fair medium-paced bowler, and always scored a few runs. * Has left. BA-n lS G P. J. de Paravieini Innings. not out 0 H.
