(74.6) batted, if possible, better than last year, making no less than 3 centuries in 8 innings; took a good many wickets, but the ground was too hard to suit his bowling; captained his team as well as his predecessor. G. F rancis (16.1), a powerful bat with good style; too careless to make long scores; fields well at times (captain for 1882). W. A. E velyn (21.4), a pretty cricketer, always good for runs; a reliable field. G. C. F itzgerald (21.2) has not improved this jrear; a steady but awkward bat; a neat field; played much better during the long vacation. J. L T emplar (11.3), good fast bowler, greatly improved since last year; plucky field! poor bat. C. B roughton (8.3), rather too steady as a bat. must learn to play with more power; good field ; bowls a little. E. H. T opham (6.1), a steady but stiff bat; fair field; excellent long-stop to fast bowling. R. C. D. D ill (9.2) promises to be a good left-hand bowler; indifferent bat. S. IS. S pricge (6.1) was played in the eleven for holding; has no other recommendation. C. J. G. S till (4.1), fair left-hand hat, possessing the usual faults of left-hand players; lacks dash in the field. L l . J on # B ateman (3(») made a lot of runs for us la3t term; has an original and awkward stj’le; not sharp'enough in the field. • CLARE COLLEGE. Pre8.,L. E wbank ; Sec. and Treas., H. J.
