Hon Ivo B ligii (Eton), Captain.— A first-class bat, but owing to ill-health was not bio to show such brilliant form'as in 1880. Has excellent stylo and plenty of hitting nower, and is also a splendid field. P A F J. F ord (Repton).—An effective though not a stylish batsman; a very hard hitter and quick run-getter. A difficult bowler on a wot or bad wicket, but was not successful last season. A useful field. N H one (Rugby) —Gained his place in the Eleven by reason of his wicket-keeping, and proved useful in the University Match. Died at Dublin during the Long Vacation. (See Obitaary^ (u arrow) #_ a . fair and neat left-handed batsman and a good field. r ’ SrKNCER (Harrow).—A fast and straight, but rather plain bowler; a painstaking steady hat, and good field. A. G. S teel (Marlborough).—Again admirable all round as in 1880 when captain. One of the best of slow bowlers we have seen for many years past, and by far the best amateur in 1881. A run-getting bat and consistent scorer; an excellent field and capital judge of the game. Plays for Gentlemen v. Players. C. T. S tudd (Eton).—As we predicted in last year’s Companion , has taken high rank in all departments, and played for tho Gentlemen in consequence. A very useful medium.pace bowler and hard-working fiold; in batting has improved wonderfully, and he played many brilliant innings, having excellent style as well as hitting powers. G. B. S tudd (Eton).—A very correct batsman and fine leg-hitter, and played some splendid innings at Cambridge, but was out of form subsequently: we expect great things of him next season ; one of the very best o f fieldsmen. J. E. K. S tudd (Eton).—A very useful cricketer, and played several excellent innings; a capital field. H. W hitfeld (Eton).—A very careful and steady bat, and his patience was amply demonstrated in tho Gentlemen v. Players match at Brighton. A safe and excellent field. C. P. W ilson (M arlborough ).— A straight medium-pace bowler, and a fair bat, though deficient in style. BATTING AVERAGES. Bligii, Hon. Ivo Ford, A. F. J. }fone>N. “ owe, F. C. C. Spencer, R. . .
