F o r the Gentlem en , Mr. A . P . Lucas made 142—up to the present time his h ighest inn ings in a first-rate match. I t is a lm ost needless to say that his ba tting was o f the finest description. T o go in against such a tota l as 352 and surpass it was an achievement o f w h ich Cam bridge cricketers had good reason to be proud . Every member o f the G en tlem en ’ s team w en t on to bow l, but M r. Buchanan and M r. P. H. M orton a lone took w ickets . Out o f 362 runs from the bat, 267 wrere scored by tw o batsmen, Mr. J. E. K . Studd m ak ing 154, and Mr. C. T. Studd 113. The brothers played splendid c r ick e t , and while they were together , took the to ta l from 62 to 280. A w a y from the Cambridge ground Mr. J. E. K. Studd cou ld show no approach to the pitch of excellence he reached in this and prev ious matches.
