Following on against ahuge total of 497 for five wickets , Derbyshire did a little worse than in the first innings . Derbyshire , 166 and 159 ; total , 325 . (9) Derbyshirev. Notts. Derby , July 11, 12 and 13. Anotherdraw, but this time not due to the rain. Thelater stages were very exciting , and, indeed , whenit ended it was anybody's game. All the three completed innings exceeded 230, and the aggregate was well over 900. Withlittle bowling on either side run-getting was only to be expected . Still , though Gunn (69 and 71) for Notts , and Mr. Evershed (39 and 54) and Storer (48and 40) for Derbyshire , scored well , Arthur Shrewsbury's second innings . of 103 for Notts wasthe only 100 of the match. With 188 to get to win, at one time the 100 was up with only Mr. Wright out. Thencamea rot, andat the finish Derbyshire still wanted20 to win with only two wickets in hand. Witha good wicket and only moderate bowling high scoring was fairly certain . Still , there was one fairly good performance with the ball on each side . In batting the chief incident was Mr. Evershed's brilliant first score for Derbyshire . H e made his first 100 in two hours and ten minutes, and altogether 153-his highest innings so far in first -class cricket -of 229 while he wasin. O nthe other side Deveywas the most successful batsman. In the matchhe made104, and wasunlucky in the first innings to miss the hundred byeight runs.
