- 5 8 LILLYWHITE'S CRICKETERS' ANNUAL. excellent cricket at the finish . Thefirst innings of Middlesex was singularly disappointing . F. G. J. Ford, indeed , was the only batsman who played Haigh with any confidence , and he was the chief scorer with 35. At the follow -onvery different cricket wasshown. H. B. HaymanandP. F. Warner beganby scoring 52 before the former was dismissed , and after A. E. Stod- dart's dismissal F. G. J. FordandW a r n e rcarried the total to 182 for two wickets . The former, whowas not out 65 overnight , only added five on the following morning. Ford (not out 66), however, hit awayin brilliant style until hehadmade127. H ewas only one hour andfifty minutes at the wicket , which will give an idea of the pace of his scoring . Excepting G. McGregornone of thelater batsmendid much, so that Yorkshire wonby an innings and nine runs. Yorkshire , 445 ; Middlesex , 118 and 318 ; total , 436. (5) Oxfordv. Cambridge. Lord's , June 30, July 1 and 2. H a dthe conditions remained favourable to the end Cambridge might havebeen able to regain the ground they had lost at the outset . Theyhad the luck , it is true , to get first innings , but lost their advantage by the disap- pointing batting of the majority of the team. O n the other hand, Oxford's play was very attractive , and most of them scored well. Eccles in particular wasingoodform, and his innings of 109 only occupied himalittle over twohours. Heavyrain during the second night spoiled Cambridge's chances at the finish , although in the second innings most of them played good cricket , if onlyfor a few runs. Oxford wonby nine wickets .
